
Michael Lavoie talked about the value of creating checkpoints to see where people are at, where you’re at, and where the environment and organizational culture is at. He used the example of parent hood to emphasize the need for leaders to question their own actions to make sure they have done all they can to set people up for success and teach them properly. Once a leader has evaluated themselves for improvement then they are better prepared to provide inputs and improvement recommendations to the people they lead. A good leader asks themselves “Did I teach them correctly, did I do everything as a leader to set them up for success? These checkpoints also help us realize what the issues creating a performance gap are and if it is a will or a skill issue and then we can use the right approach to address the problem.
