The Value of a Safe & Challenging Learning Environment

The Leadership and Hardiness experience has been touched on by both Lori Mage and Nailah Blades Wylie in their episodes. As I have pondered their thoughts and what this experience has met to me all these years later I am beginning to realize the power that a well crafted learning environment can have. This environment challenged us academically, emotionally, and physically. It illustrated deeply that failure can be a learning experience and that getting to the top of the mountain is just one possible goal. As Nailah mentioned, these types of learning environments need to be safe enough for us to embrace the challenge to the full extent possible. Dr. Popa created an incredible environment for us that has lived with us for over a decade and still teaches us amazing truths about ourselves, our leadership ability, and our organizations.
